Olga’s Journey: Corporate Life to Purpose: End-of-Life Doula
For nearly four decades,
Olga built a career in the retail and wholesale industry, developing a wealth of experience in operations, administration, coaching, human resources, and professional services as a Notary Public. Her career was defined by adaptability, leadership, continuous learning, and a genuine desire to help others.
Today, Olga is navigating a new path. One that has led her inward and invited her to rediscover the gifts and talents she believes God has given her.
After forty years in the corporate world, Olga experienced a major transition when the landscape of her career changed. Like many people facing an unexpected professional restructuring, she initially questioned her value and wondered what purpose remained for her.
“I believed in the weeks and months after the restructure that I was finally at a point where I was of no use to anyone,” Olga reflects. “Silly really, but the mind has a way of making you believe nonsense when your emotions are heightened.”
Over time, however, Olga discovered that the end of one chapter did not mean the end of her story. It became an invitation to begin again.
She realized that moving forward would require courage and resilience. Rather than viewing her years of professional experience as something that belonged to the past, she began to recognize how valuable that knowledge remained. Today, Olga continues to earn a living by drawing on her extensive human resources skills, experience, and knowledge while simultaneously building a new business rooted in a deeper sense of purpose.
That purpose is her work as an End-of-Life Doula.
For Olga, this calling is deeply personal. She became increasingly aware of how underserved and underrepresented the Latino community can be when it comes to end-of-life care and support. Her own experience of losing her younger sister, Cathie, years ago also shaped the way she sees this work.
That loss prepared her for a journey she never expected to take.
Olga understands how overwhelming and lonely it can feel when a family is navigating death, particularly when they are trying to understand the medical system, make difficult decisions, and come to terms with the finality of life.
She does not want others to face that experience alone.
As an end-of-life doula, Olga hopes to provide the guidance, compassion, understanding, and presence that families need during one of life's most difficult transitions. Her work is about helping people navigate the journey from life to death with dignity, support, and humanity.
Her professional accomplishments remain a source of pride, particularly her educational achievements and her commitment to lifelong learning. Olga believes that learning never truly ends and that every experience offers an opportunity to grow.
But perhaps her greatest accomplishment is discovering that purpose can emerge from transition.
Her story is a reminder that when one door closes, our value does not disappear. Sometimes, we simply need the courage to look in a new direction and recognize that the gifts we have developed throughout our lives can lead us somewhere meaningful.
Olga's message to others is simple yet powerful: we all have natural gifts, and we are all needed.
“No one is the same, and we all contribute to life on this planet,” she says.
Whatever beliefs we hold, Olga believes there is something fundamental that connects us all. We need love. We need understanding. We need community. And we need one another to live a full and meaningful life.
Her journey from corporate professional to end-of-life doula is more than a career transition. It is a story of resilience, rediscovery, service, and purpose. A reminder that sometimes the next chapter of our lives can reveal gifts we never knew we were meant to share.
